Nottingham Forest forward set for 'goodbye' as club plan to cut off loan deal

Nottingham Forest striker Hwang Ui-jo is reportedly set to bid farewell to Olympiacos after a disappointing loan spell.

The South Korea international arrived at the City Ground from Bordeaux for around £4million, becoming the Reds’ 17th signing of the summer. He was immediately sent on loan to Evangelos Marinakis-owned Olympiacos, after scoring 11 goals and producing two assists in Ligue 1 last term.

Though it doesn’t appear things have gone to plan for Ui-jo during his time in Piraeus. The Forest forward has made 10 appearances across all competitions, registering one assist, and Olympiacos are claimed to be cutting his season-long loan short, according to reports in Greece.

Greek outlet Spor Time has stated that Ui-jo is preparing to “say goodbye” to his teammates. It is said that the 30-year-old is in his “final days” at Olympiacos before he makes his return to Steve Cooper ’s side.

The report outlines that the club plans to send Ui-jo back to Forest during the upcoming World Cup break, though he could be in line to make one of his final appearances for Olympiacos against Nantes in the Europa League on Thursday. In a blunt assessment of his time at the Karaiskakis Stadium, Spor Time admitted that the striker has worked hard but “never escaped mediocrity”.

Ui-jo has been playing alongside fellow Forest loanee Josh Bowler at Olympiacos, as well as former Real Madrid stars James Rodriguez and Marcelo. However, he may face a different type of challenge, if he does return to Forest.

The Reds have already named the maximum 25 players in their Premier League squad for this season, meaning a space would have to be found in order for Ui-jo to feature in the top-flight. The ex-Bordeaux forward would be competing with Brennan Johnson, Emmanuel Dennis, Taiwo Awoniyi and Sam Surridge for a starting spot in Steve Cooper’s side.
