Nottingham Forest forward Will Swan will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, loan club Mansfield Town have confirmed.
The 22-year-old has impressed during a season-long loan with the League Two club. He made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals. After mainly being used as a substitute in recent weeks, Swan has been left out of the squad for the last three league games.
It was confirmed late last month that the forward had suffered ankle ligament damage in training. The recovery time however, was not confirmed by the club at the time, with recovery times from the injury ranging from weeks to months.

“Will Swan, we’ve not had good news on him really,” Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough confirmed at the time. “He’s had a scan and he’s done some ligament damage in his ankle in training last week.”
It has now been confirmed by Mansfield that the forward’s season is over, with the Forest academy graduate expected to return to the City Ground to continue his rehabilitation ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Writing on their official Twitter page, Mansfield posted: “First team coach Andy Garner has this morning confirmed that forward Will Swan will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury. We wish Will the very best in his rehabilitation.”
Swan has made a total of two first team appearances for Forest before joining Port Vale on loan in January 2021. He however managed just one goal in 10 appearances for the League Two club.
The Forest man returned to the club’s U23 side the following season, scoring 12 goals in 21 appearances in Premier League 2. This summer saw him move on another temporary deal in League Two, where he enjoyed more success with Mansfield.
The news has not gone down well with Stags’ fans, although some are hoping that the forward will return to the club following his recovery. “Just our luck, hopefully get him back on loan,” one wrote, while a second added: “It’d be nice if we could sign him at the end of the season.”
