Nottingham Forest favourite praises crucial Evangelos Marinakis decision

Glenn Murray believes that Nottingham Forest are getting their "just rewards" for not sacking manager Steve Cooper earlier in the season.

Cooper, 43, came under severe pressure after the Reds lost five consecutive matches in the Premier League between the end of August and early October. Despite the team's poor results after a summer in which almost £150m was spent on transfers, Evangelos Marinakis handed the head coach a brand new contract, tying him to the club until 2025.

It's proved to be an inspired decision, as the Welshman turned things around before long. They have lost just three of their ten league games since the new deal was signed, while also managing to beat Liverpool at the City Ground.

Although Forest still have a long way to go before safety can be secured, they pulled themselves out of the relegation zone with a win over bottom dwellers Southampton earlier this week. Murray says that Marinakis' patience is paying off as Cooper has managed to integrate many of their 23 new signings into his system.

"It was always going to take time for Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest," the former Nottingham Forest striker told BBC Radio 5 Live before Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Blackpool. "It was just a question of how quickly he could get them to gel.

"There was always a question mark over how many of the players he wanted. You've got to shout out Evangelos Marinakis because it would have been really easy to pull the trigger but they were patient with him and they are getting their just rewards."
