Nottingham Forest fans sent important travel warning ahead of West Ham clash

East Midlands Railway have issued a warning to football supporters not to travel by train this weekend.

Nottingham Forest made their much-awaited return to the Premier League last weekend. After a flurry of transfers this summer, Steve Cooper’s side fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United and will hope for a more positive result when they take on West Ham in a 2pm kick-off on Sunday.

The City Ground will be packed-out against the Hammers as supporters excitedly look forward to the club’s first home game in the top-flight since 1999. However, fans have been advised not to travel to the match by train.

Writing on social media, East Midlands Railway (EMR) shared a message to football supporters ahead of the weekend: “Fans of @NFFC @LCFC @swfc @dcfcofficial we are expecting very high temperatures this weekend for these reasons we advise you not to travel by rail.”

Nottinghamshire is going through heatwave temperatures and the increased heat could lead to disruptions for those who plan to arrive at the game by train. A statement from EMR said: “The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning from Thursday 11 August – Sunday 14 August.

"We continue to work with our partners at Network Rail to assess the potential impact of hot weather on our services. At this stage it is not envisaged that wide-spread speed restrictions will be applied on our network however, this will continue to be monitored over the coming days and we will, if required, amend our timetable accordingly. You are strongly advised to only travel if necessary.”
