Nottingham Forest fans rally around Steve Cook after defender thanks paramedics

Nottingham Forest fans have sent their well wishes after defender Steve Cook revealed that his father suffered a cardiac arrest before Forest’s game against Bournemouth.

Forest travelled to the South coast for a crucial game in the race for the final remaining automatic promotion place in the Championship. But a late goal from Kieffer Moore means that the Reds now go into the play-offs at the end of the season, with the Cherries taking second place.

Taking to social media after the game, Cook revealed the news while thanking the paramedics who saved his father’s life. “First of all a big congratulations to @afcbournemouth on promotion but tonight I need to thank the paramedics at the game,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Unfortunately my dad suffered a cardiac arrest just before the game and they managed to bring him back to life. I’ll forever be grateful for their actions.”

Cook played almost the full 90 minutes of the game, but didn’t mention if he knew about the news before lining up on the pitch. The central defender also suffered a nasty head wound during the first half which required treatment at half time.

Following the message from the Forest man, who joined the club from Bournemouth in January, fans were quick to reply with their messages of support. Here’s what just some had to say, including tweets from both clubs involved in the game.

Nottingham Forest : Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their best wishes to Steve Cook’s father who was taken ill this evening.

AFC Bournemouth : Thoughts with you, Cookie.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery

Dave Mitchell : Much respect for still taking the field mate!

Yeah we didn’t get the result we wanted, but time to rest a few and go for the Wembley day out!

Claire : And you still went out there tonight?… huge respect… sending all my love to you and your dad… praying for a full recovery

Dave NFFC : What an heroic performance you put in and glad to hear he is doing ok. Here's hoping he makes a speedy recovery and gets to watch you help us to play off glory at the end of the month.

Steve Bennett : That's incredible in so many ways. Delighted that you Dad was brought back and hope he makes a great recovery. He would have been very proud of your performance as all #nffc fans are. Thank-you.

Thomas Newton : Forget results etc this puts things in perspective! Speedy recovery to your father Steve

Mike nffc : Wow… this sort of news always puts things into perspective and refocuses people on what’s really important, stay strong and I wish your Dad all the best #nffc
