Nottingham Forest face fight for £52m-rated teenager as Barcelona transfer stance outlined

Nottingham Forest could have a fight on their hands if they revisit their interest in Brazilian youngster Angelo Gabriel in the summer.

The highly-rated teenager is regarded as one of his country’s brightest prospects. He was on the Reds’ radar last month and they made a push to sign him before the January window closed, but he ended up staying with Santos.

There continues to be plenty of interest in the attacker, however. And it seems there will be a race to secure his signature come the summer.

Italian website Calciomercato suggest there is a 60 million euro (roughly £52m) clause in Gabriel’s contract, but add that it is unlikely that figure will be met. In addition to Forest, they report Brazilian outfit Flamengo, AC Milan, PSG, Manchester City and Liverpool are all keen on the 18-year-old.

However, the report adds Barcelona have a “sort of first refusal” on the player. And it is said the Spanish giants have put forward the idea of a loan with a right to buy, initially being registered as an academy player who would train and play for the first-team.

The Reds already have four Brazilians in the ranks. Renan Lodi has been with Steve Cooper ’s squad since the summer, while Gustavo Scarpa joined at the start of January, followed by former Palmeiras teammate Danilo and Felipe, from Atletico Madrid.

Gabriel came through Santos’ academy, before being promoted to the senior side at the age of just 15. Forest reportedly had an initial 15m euros (£13m) bid rebuffed, before increasing their offer to 18m euros (£16m).
