Nottingham Forest 'exploring' transfer for £21m-rated Tottenham man

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a loan move for Tottenham Hostpur defender Sergio Reguilon.

Morgan Gibbs-White became the Reds’ 16th new addition of the summer when he put pen to paper on a club-record deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers last Friday. But boss Steve Cooper is looking to further bolster his squad before the window closes on September 1.

Reguilon is said to have emerged as a player of interest. Forest are “exploring a loan” for the out-of-favour left-back, according to the Daily Mail.

The Spaniard has yet to feature for Spurs this season. Although nursing an injury, he has Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic ahead of him in the pecking order leaving him “surplus to requirements” with Antonio Conte’s side.

A number of teams have already been credited with an interest in his signature, prior to the link with the Reds emerging. The Mail report Lazio and Villarreal have made enquiries, while the Daily Express claim Atalanta are keen, amid suggestions of a £21 million price tag as Tottenham are “thought to be keen on a sale”.

Reguilon signed for Spurs from Real Madrid in 2020 on a five-year deal. He has made 67 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

Forest have brought in Omar Richards and Harry Toffolo to compete for the left wing-back spot this term, having lost Max Lowe at the end of his loan spell. However, Richards is currently out of action with a hairline fracture of the leg.

Cooper has said the Reds are not done in the transfer market just yet. “I don’t think we’ll be finished with ins and outs. There’s still a bit to go,” he said after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Everton.
