Nottingham Forest and their Premier League rivals are considering plans to revamp the FA and League Cup competitions in order to help with the congested fixture list, according to reports.
The proposals being considered by clubs are said to include scrapping all FA Cup replays as well as radical changes to the League Cup. The plans are set to be discussed at a Premier League shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday.
Changes to the football calendar will also be part of a deal to distribute extra funds to the EFL and reform parachute payments. According to The Times, one of the proposals would see replays for the FA Cup third and fourth round completely scrapped from 2024, while clubs involved in European competitions would either not compete in the League Cup or would be able to field under-21 sides.

Premier League sides are desperate to free up space in the congested fixture calendar but the report adds that top-flight clubs will not push for the League Cup to be scrapped, nor for all FA Cup games to be played in midweek. The EFL is apparently yet to be approached over the plans.
Forest will be in League Cup action later this year when they take on fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground on Wednesday, 9 November. The meeting was set up after Steve Cooper’s side overcame Grimsby Town in the second round of the competition last month.
