Steven Reid has returned to Nottingham Forest as a first-team coach ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The former Republic of Ireland international left the City Ground last summer, following a two-year spell at the club. He wanted to take up a new challenge and said he planned to offer his services as a specialist coach “helping people improve their mental well-being, confidence, and leadership”.
However, he has now returned to Steve Cooper’s staff as they prepare for the new Premier League campaign. It will come as a big boost for Forest, given how Reid played a key part in their promotion back to the top-flight prior to his departure.
"I am absolutely delighted to return to Nottingham Forest,” Reid said. "It is a club that has stayed close to my heart for many reasons, firstly because of the amazing journey to promotion, but also because of the support I felt from within the club and the amazing fanbase when stepping away from football to do some work around mental health and well-being. I have remained close to Steve (Cooper) and many of the coaching staff and players and cannot wait to get going again."

Reid first joined Forest as part of Chris Hughton’s coaching staff in October 2022. He remained at the City Ground when Hughton was axed, taking caretaker charge for one game as the Reds beat Huddersfield Town 2-0.
When Cooper was appointed, Reid retained his role as coach. And he was an integral figure behind the scenes as Forest clinched their place back in the Premier League.
“I’m delighted that Reidy is returning to the club,” Cooper said. "He had a massive impact in our Championship promotion-winning season, but he also has experience of working and playing in the Premier League and knows what it demands. He understands the way we work and the culture we like to live at both the training ground and the City Ground, and I’m really pleased that he is coming back to help us continue to grow that."
Chief football officer Ross Wilson, added: "We are pleased to welcome Steven back into our group this morning. I’ve enjoyed getting to know him during the conversations with both Steve and Steven. Steve has told me all about the quality that he brought to the coaching team previously and I know he has a real affinity for Forest."
