Nottingham Forest confirm Bayern Munich transfer as seventh deal done

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that left-back Omar Richards as their fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

The 24 year-old former Bayern Munich defender has signed a four-year contract at the City Ground that is set to see the player's peak years spent in the East Midlands. Forest were widely reported to have agreed a fee with the German giants over the weekend and the former England under-21 international has since agreed personal terms with the Reds and undergone a medical ahead of this announcement.

While arriving from Bavaria, Richards is no stranger to English football. Born in Lewisham, southeast London, his footballing career began in the capital at Fulham at the age of 10 before being released by the Craven Cottage club and instead signing a professional contract with Reading.

More than 100 appearances followed for the Royals before making the move to Bayern. Just 17 appearances followed last season in what turned out to be his only season abroad, but it was enough for him to leave Bayern with Bundesliga and German Supercup winners medals.

Richards joins fellow defenders Giulian Biancone and Moussa Niakhate as well as loanee goalkeeper Dean Henderson and club-record signing Taiwo Awoniyi in arriving at the club in the aftermath of Premier League promotion. The Reds also look set to further bolster the opposite side of their defence with the signing of Neco Williams from Liverpool.
