Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Monday, July 18, 2022.
Eighth summer signing confirmed
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of teenage attacking midfielder Brandon Aguilera.
The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Reds, making the move from Costa Rican side Alajuelense. He becomes the club’s eighth new arrival of the summer.
Tipped as one for the future, Aguilera is viewed as a bright prospect. However, he will, initially at least, return to his former club Guanacasteca to spend the first six months of the season on loan.

Double deal ‘agreed’
Nottingham Forest have reportedly agreed a double deal with Huddersfield Town to sign midfielder Lewis O’Brien and full-back Harry Toffolo.
The duo have been on the transfer radar of Steve Cooper for the last few weeks, with the Forest boss keen to add to his midfield options during the summer transfer window. Both players featured for Huddersfield in the play-off final against Forest back in May.
While they didn’t achieve promotion to the Premier League, it looks as though they will play in the top flight with Forest in the upcoming season. As reported by the Telegraph’s John Percy , Forest have ‘agreed a double deal with Huddersfield’ for the two players.
Garner’s Forest admission
Manchester United midfielder James Garner has said it will be difficult to top the campaign he had with Nottingham Forest last season.
The 21-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan at the City Ground , helping the club earn promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs. Garner played the crucial ball into the box for the own goal in the final against Huddersfield back in May as Forest sealed their place in the top division after 23 years.
He played a total of 49 times in all competitions, but has now returned to Old Trafford to attempt to break into Erik ten Hag’s first team squad. However, Garner has been linked with another move away from United this summer, with Forest and fellow east midlands side Leicester City both reported to be interested.
Middlesbrough’s stance on Tavernier
Nottingham Forest will reportedly have to pay "a lot more" than the rumoured £10m offered if they are to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier this summer.
The 23-year-old is apparently a man in demand among the newly promoted Premier League sides ahead of their return to the division next month, with Bournemouth and the Reds both credited with an interest in the player. Established top-flight teams Everton , Leicester City and Southampton are also apparently looking at the versatile midfielder, who played on the left, right and through the middle last season at the Riverside Stadium.
Tavernier scored five goals and assisted for another quartet last season as Boro narrowly missed out on a play-off spot in the Championship . Despite only turning 23 in March, the former England youth international has already made more than 150 senior appearances for the North East club.
