Nottingham Forest youngster Alex Mighten is hoping to take another step on the road to recovery next week.
The teenager has been out of action since the middle of last month with a knee injury, but could soon be back training with his teammates.
The Reds are steadily getting more players back from spells on the sidelines. Mighten, fellow winger Joe Lolley (also a knee problem) and defender Joe Worrall (broken ribs) are now their only long-term absentees.
“Alex is getting a lot closer. We hope he is back training with us next week,” said boss Steve Cooper ahead of Sunday’s trip to Cardiff City.
“Joe Worrall is still at the early stages with his ribs. He’s champing at the bit - he’s not the best player to be injured, if I’m being honest! He’s a brilliant professional, but he just wants to play every single game.
“Joe Lolley is going through his rehab stages. He’s a little bit behind where Alex is, in terms of scheduling.
“But Alex and Joe Lolley are not far away.”
Worrall broke three ribs in the 1-0 victory at Millwall earlier this month and is ruled out for the next six weeks. He has continued to be heavily involved with the squad, however.
“He’s asked if he can come to Cardiff at the weekend, which is great. He’s vice-captain, I want him there,” Cooper added.
“It shows how committed he is. As long as he’s not bloody moaning about not playing!
“He’s in the dressing room, he’s as vocal as ever!
“I’m joking, he’s really positive around the place. He’s a good guy.
“It’s a little bit unfortunate because he was having such a good season, but he’ll be back as soon as he can.”
