Taiwo Awoniyi is excited by the potential in Nottingham Forest’s attacking arsenal as relationships continue to develop on the pitch.
The Reds scored some superb goals as they saw off Southampton 4-3 on Monday evening. And with youth on the side of those at the heart of some of the team’s best forward play, it is hoped there is plenty more to come.
Awoniyi was teed up by Brennan Johnson for his first goal of the night, then latched on to a Danilo flick for his second. Johnson won the penalty which allowed Morgan Gibbs-White to net the team’s third, while the fourth was up there with one of Forest’s best moves of the season.

After a driving run by Johnson, Danilo was left to thump the ball beyond Alex McCarthy thanks to an exquisite Gibbs-White assist. Awoniyi wants to build on that platform and keep making the most of the opportunities created by his teammates.
“He is a special player with what he is doing for the team,” the forward said of Gibbs-White. “He is fantastic as a number 10. He can put in the balls and you just have to be there when they put it in for you.
“We are getting there with the link play. With the situation we are in, we are trying everything to play together more.
“But the most important thing is to get the points, which we did. The goal is for us to stay in the league and everyone is doing everything possible.
“I think it was an important three points. The City Ground was fantastic, like always, and it was a good win. We have to take this into the next game (against Chelsea). We just have to look after ourselves and keep our game going to get the points needed to stay in the league.”
