A tech entrepreneur who launched a gaming-based business from his bedroom in Bulwell has sold up for £22 million. Lee McNeil founded company Tebex aged just 16 years old.
The company began as an online platform for users of video game Minecraft to sell online products - a sector known as gCommerce. After branching out into games such as Grand Theft Auto V and Rust, Tebex went on to process payments of more than $500 million (£380m). Mr McNeil's business, which is based in Queensbridge Road, has now been acquired by software firm Overwolf for almost $30 million.
Tebex will continue to operate as a business unit within Overwolf and continue to maintain, build and innovate on its offering to its existing customers. It's a move Mr McNeil thinks will ensure Tebex can expand even further.
