A Nottingham couple face a tough decision in this week’s episode of Channel 4 property show Love It or List It. The programme, presented by Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer, follows couples as they decide whether to stay put or move to a new home.
In this week’s programme, clothing designer Lexie and her partner Ed, an IT consultant, weigh up the pros and cons of staying in their existing home or starting afresh in a new one. The couple currently live in a four-bed, Georgian semi-detached house - valued at just under £300,000 - with their four young children, aged between six years and 15 months.
Space is at a premium for the family, with one of the bedrooms - the coldest in the house - used by Ed as a home office. While Ed would prefer to move, Lexie is more attached to their existing home and values its character.

Ed and Lexie bought their current home three years ago and, while they intended to renovate it to reflect the family’s changing needs, they haven’t got as far as they’d planned. The property only has one bathroom for the entire family, a source of ongoing aggravation.
The couple start out with a £450,000 budget for a new property and £60,000 for renovation. They are keen, however, to ensure that any money they spend on refurbishing their current home will be reflected in its value as well as making the property more comfortable to live in.
Both Ed and Lexie are in agreement that they don’t want to venture far from where they currently live, as they value being part of their local community. But the lack of off-street parking is an issue for Ed, who first moved to Nottingham for work 12 years ago and met Lexie when the pair found themselves in a house share together.
Phil Spencer does his best to persuade the couple that they would be better off moving to a new home. Their property hunt takes them to a five-bedroomed new build in Calverton - priced at £379,995 - as well as a modern, £380,000 four-bed home in Arnold and a five-bed house in Mapperley, valued slightly above Ed and Lexie’s budget at £475,000.
The latest episode of Love It or List It with Kirstie and Phil airs on Channel 4 on Wednesday (February 8) at 8pm. The programme is already available to watch via All 4, the broadcaster’s streaming service.
