The leader of Nottingham City Council has hit back at Prime Minister Boris Johnson after he slammed the local authority during PMQs on Wednesday (April 27) over a failed energy company. During a fiery PMQs in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister blasted Labour-run Nottingham City Council for investing in what he called a "communist energy company".
Boris Johnson referenced a number of local authorities run by the Labour Party which have faced financial hardship after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer brought up local elections taking place on May 5. One of those was Nottingham City Council investing in Robin Hood Energy, a failed energy company that lost taxpayers an anticipated £38m when it went into administration in 2020.
Mr Johnson also said Nottingham City Council was "bankrupt", which the local authority has confirmed is not the case. And the leader of the City Council has since hit back at those remarks.
