A recently opened takeaway in Nottingham city centre has been given a hygiene rating of 1 - but its manager has said this is because of missing paperwork and work taking place on the premises and nothing to do with the food. Grillish opened on Mansfield Road a few months ago and serves grilled takeaway food.
Three areas are inspected by a food safety officer. These are management of food safety, which in this case was rated 'major improvement necessary', cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, which was rated 'improvement necessary', and hygienic food handling, which was rated 'very good'.
The inspection took place on May 11, with the findings recently published. The manager of Grillish is '100 percent' sure the next time the takeaway is rated, it will be given a higher rating.

Mr Khan said: "There was paperwork missing and some work needed to be done to the property, but that was about it. Because we did not have a Safer Food Better Business for Caterers book, where we have to record things like fridge temperatures at the time of the inspection, we couldn't have been given higher than 1.
"We also did not have a food safety certificate up in the shop. But there is nothing wrong with our food, we were rated 'very good' for our hygienic food handling.
"Our downstairs floor had a rip in it and we've recently had our toilet in the back done too, but this was ongoing and we had no ventilation at the time. It's little things that have needed to be done, but we only recently moved in and a fair bit of work needed doing, we're still redoing the layout.
"We've booked for the inspector to revisit, and he should be coming back within the next month. The inspector came so quickly after we opened, within the first three or four weeks, but I appreciate the advice that was given, I learned some things too.
"Business has been okay since we opened, it's got a little bit slower recently but it's been okay. We serve a variety of different food, but we get a lot of trade around 1am, and all we end up serving is donner, donner, donner when people come in for food after being out in the city.
"As well as that, normally our chicken wings and lamb chops are our best sellers. We're going to be serving steak soon as well."
