Nottingham calls for 'more balance' in city's student housing hotspots

People of Nottingham have told of their life in the areas where student accommodation blocks have been erected. With a number of student developments still ongoing across the city, neighbours say that more residential homes should be built instead.

In Sneinton, plans for more accommodation available for students were not well received by residents in the area who feared that it would block the market and impact businesses. More recently, Councillor David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council and ward councillor for Dales said that part of the Sneinton Market which was fenced up for years could be transformed into student accommodation.

Gosia Piotrowska, who has lived in Sneinton for ten years both as a student and permanent resident, went on and said: "As long as the student accommodation is not being built next to where residents live I think that is fine. Students need to live somewhere."
