Notorious gambler 'Mattress Mack' messages Dak Prescott after losing $2m on Dallas Cowboys

Renowned sports bettor ‘Mattress Mack’ lost millions as the Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL playoffs - and he fired a message to quarterback Dak Prescott following his miserable performance.

On Sunday night, the Cowboys crashed out of the postseason as they fell 19-12 to the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. It means Dallas have continued their streak of failing to reach the NFC Championship Game, with their last appearance in the contest coming back in 1995.

The result in the revived classic rivalry between two iconic franchises means the Cowboys will have to wait to add a sixth championship. Since winning Super Bowl XXX in the 1995 season, the Cowboys have had 12 playoff appearances but only five victories.

The defeat is undoubtedly a crushing reality for the Cowboys, who believed this was their year with such a dominant defence. Their offence proved to be their undoing; Prescott threw for 206 yards and a touchdown but he hurled a pair of interceptions as he struggled against the vaunted San Francisco defence.

Texas mattress salesman Jim McIngvale made a record $10million when he successfully bet on the Houston Astros to win the 2022 MLB World Series, and he went viral as a result. McIngvale - known as ‘Mattress Mack’ - hit out at quarterback Prescott after he unfortunately backed the Cowboys to win.

“Hey Dak, Mattress Mack here,” McIngvale said in a video posted to social media. “I just lost $2 million, but I've got some advice for you. Get rid of that Sleep Number mattress and get a Tempur-Pedic. You'll get much better results!”

Former Cowboys wide receiver and NFL legend Terrell Owens got involved, commenting on McIngvale’s post. He said: “Mack! I don’t think a tempur-pedic would’ve helped him. They should’ve signed me a couple of weeks ago!!"

McIngvale is known for his high stakes betting habits, despite betting being illegal in the state of Texas. In order to place his bets he travels to either Las Vegas or Louisiana just to get around the regulations.

The 71-year-old must have thought he was dreaming when the Astros won the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which is believed to be the biggest sports bet win in history. However, there are plenty of losses for every major win, including the Divisional Round loss for the Cowboys.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it is not the first time McIngvale has been scorned by a result in the NFL playoffs. He placed an $8.5m bet on the Cincinnati Bengals to win the Super Bowl last year, only for Joe Burrow and co. to fall 23-20 to the Los Angeles Rams.

He is a savvy salesman too as McIngvale allows customers who purchase a mattress to get their money back if he goes on to win big with his outlandish bets, as he did when the Astros won the World Series.
