With the Bruhat Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issuing notices to thousands of residential and commercial building owners, who have constructed buildings in violation of the law, the State Congress on Saturday suggested to the State Government to file an appeal in the High Court to direct the civic agency not to demolish buildings till the matter is decided in the Supreme Court.
Based on the High Court’s directions, the BBMP has been issuing notices to owners of buildings in the city. Several owners of buildings have filed an appeal in the Supreme Court in 2016 challenging the High Court ruling on the matter.
In 2015, the State government issued a circular directing all urban local bodies to receive applications under the ‘Akrama-Sakrama’ scheme for regularisation of illegal constructions by paying penalty ranging from 6% to 8% of the market value for residential buildings and 25% and 35% of the market value for commercial structures.
Speaking at a press conference here, former Minister and KPCC working president Ramalinga Reddy urged the State Government to file the appeal before the High Court seeking issuing directions to BBMP not to demolish buildings constructed with more than five per cent deviation till the disposal of the case in the Supreme Court.
