Nothing Phone (2) design shown off in promo video

The Nothing Phone (2) has been examined close-up in a pre-announcement video by well-known YouTuber Marques Brownlee.

Nothing is set to officially announce the Nothing Phone (2) on July 11 but its design has been fully revealed on YouTube.

It initially looks very similar to the Nothing Phone (1), using a pattern of  LED “glyphs” on the back — the style that made the original stand out so much.

However, this time around, those LEDs are split into more blobs. The phone goes from 12 LED zones to 33.

Why does it matter? These LEDs can be used for more jobs. One set of LEDs is used as a volume indicator and to show how much time is left in programmed timers, for example.

As in the last generation, the set of LEDs near the charging point can be used as a charge indicator.

The Nothing Phone (2) can also light-up one of the top light glyphs when notifications arrive from an app of your choice. But it does not look like you can set this to alert you about messages from a particular person.

As in the last generation, none of these rear lights are colourful either. They all use white LEDs. However, a “Glyph Composer” feature lets you programme in a pattern to fire off as part of a ringtone.

More interested in the Nothing Phone (2)’s camera? Just go to Twitter and search for the #NothingPhone2 hashtag. The company has just freed a bunch of influencers and community insiders to post images taken with the camera.

Nothing had previously announced the Phone (2) would use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. This is just a half-generation behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU seen in today’s most expensive Android phones.

Does it mean the Nothing Phone (2) will be more expensive than the £399 original? Most likely. The Poco F5 Pro and OnePlus 10T are among the most affordable phones with this processor to date, and start at £559 and £629 respectively.
