As Michigan State progresses through training camp, many different coaches have spoke to the media, and this time it was tight ends coach Ted Gilmore’s turn to take the podium.
MSU offensive coordinator Jay Johnson has made it known that the tight end spot is one of the most important positions on the roster, which puts the pressure on Gilmore to get the position ready.

On Maliq Carr

Ted Gilmore, the tight ends coach at Michigan State, has had a unique relationship with Maliq Carr over the years. On MSU's second scrimmage
Gilmore on MSU's second scrimmage Saturday: "Offensively, we're not where we want to be. Obviously we still got a lot of stuff to clean up. We're trying to be balanced, and there's times we were able to be balanced and at times it wasn't, so that's ongoing."

On transfer TEs
Gilmore said Tyneil Hopper has had his best 2 weeks since transferring from Boise State. Also says Wisconsin transfer Jaylan Franklin has shown excellent athletic ability but needs to keep on weight and become more consistent at catching the ball.
