'Not that person': Cantwell isn't living up to social media perception at Blackburn

Blackburn Rovers' Lewis Travis has come to the defence of his new teammate Todd Cantwell, who has faced scrutiny for the way his two-year stint at Rangers ended.

Cantwell made headlines when he joined Blackburn on Deadline Day, a move that came after former Rangers manager Philippe Clement excluded him from the first-team lineup, following a supposed transfer request from the talented playmaker.

This abrupt shift in his career path has led to speculation and criticism from sections of the Rangers fanbase.

Upon joining the English Championship side, Cantwell addressed rumours suggesting he had refused to play for Rangers after being relegated to the B team under Clement's management.

The 26-year-old vehemently denied these claims, emphasising his commitment to the club and his desire to contribute positively.

His decision to leave the Scottish Premiership was further complicated by a series of social media posts that raised eyebrows among Rangers supporters.

However, Travis, who is also 26, has expressed unwavering support for Cantwell, stating that he has not witnessed any of the so-called "red flags" that have been circulating online since Cantwell's arrival at Ewood Park last month.

"We have got some great new additions," the Blackburn defensive midfielder told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"The likes of Todd, Pape (Gueye), Yuki (Ohashi), Amario (Cozier-Dubbery). They have all come in and they are raring to go in training.

“We have a great core of players there. Everyone wants to win and I think this season, we can do anything.

"You hear a lot online about things but he (Cantwell) doesn't strike me as that person. He has come in and he is very hard-working, a down-to-earth lad.

"The conversations I have had with him, he wants to play football and do well. He has shown that already in training so I am sure when his chance comes, he will take it."
