'Not surprising' - Manchester United fans react as Varane and Martial discover World Cup fate

Manchester United fans have been sharing their reactions after Raphael Varane was called up to France's national team for the Qatar World Cup while Anthony Martial misses out.

Varane has been missing for United since he suffered a leg injury against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The centre-back looked to be in some pain and was visibly upset as he left the pitch in London.

He has not featured since for the Reds but a return looks to be around the corner for him as Didier Deschamps opted to include him in his 25-man squad for the Qatar tournament. Martial meanwhile has also struggled for fitness this season having suffered two serious injuries.

However, when he has played the forward has been in good form scoring three goals and grabbing two assists in just five matches. Martial made his return to the pitch for the Reds on Sunday against Aston Villa but it was deemed not enough for him to be worthy of a call-up.

Notably in the French squad Adrien Rabiot, who so nearly joined United in the summer, has been given a place in the team. Meanwhile, Antoine Griezmann and Christopher Nkunku, who have both been linked with Ten Hag's side, will be on the plane to Qatar.

For United supporters though, they seem to be happy for Martial to sit out of the tournament while they were encouraged that Varane made the squad. Here is what some have been saying on Twitter this evening.
