Nostalgic Yet Novel: Lindsay Lohan's Stunning Christmas Tree is a Refreshing, Trend-Forward Twist on Tradition

Lindsay lohan on a gray background at the drew barrymore show.

When Bing Crosby sang, 'I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, like the ones I used to know,' he was talking about a landscape covered in snow. Though we haven't yet learned how to control the weather, modern decor means we can design a white Christmas without one nimbostratus cloud in the sky.

Lindsay Lohan's striking white Christmas tree idea is the perfect example. The actor took to Instagram to share a video of her seasonal decorating, and it all centers around a white faux tree littered with gold, green, silver, and red ornaments (like these adorable red bows from Amazon). Beaneath the tree, a fuzzy white skirt lends a cozy feel.

Her design is so striking because it feels at once traditional and modern. The base of a white tree dates back decades (Elizabeth Taylor had a white Christmas tree in the '50s!), and the red, green, and gold ornaments are a perfectly classic complement. However, the bluish lights and Christmas tree skirt are distinctly contemporary.

It's no secret that Nostalgic Christmas has been one of the biggest trends this season. In fact, Google data shows that searches for 'nostalgic Christmas decorations’ are up +200%. If you want to harness this traditional feel without compromising on a bit of contemporary style, a tree like Lindsay's embodies the ideal balance.

Recreate Lindsay's Look at Home

Claudia Kampmann, Brand Manager and Interior design expert at Ruggable explains the trend stating: 'Old-school, traditional Christmas decorations were the embodiment of festive cheer. Think less chic and more sentimental and nostalgic. Over the past decade or so, many people have been making their Christmas trees more uniform, leaning more into decorations that match their decor, which can feel predictable. This year, people are looking back to their childhoods for decoration inspiration.' Lindsay's tree captures this impulse with a classic design.

While Claudia predicts that most people will take a maximalist approach to incorporating traditional Christmas motifs into their decor with clashing primary colors, flashing lights, handmade decorations and nutcrackers, Lindsay's design shows that you can get a classic look with a more pared back style. By selecting a few classic pieces with modern styling, it's easy to recreate the design in any home.

Christmas decor is deeply personal, so everyone's will be a little bit different. Paying attention to trends, while subverting them with your own flair and a bit of tradition, almost always yields stunning results. Take it from Lindsay Lohan.
