Norwich City vs Bristol City injury news: Hosts without four notable players for visit of Robins

Norwich City will be without four players for the visit of Bristol City including two full-backs as the Championship's two in-form teams go head-to-head.

Dean Smith's side host the Robins on Wednesday night on the back of five consecutive victories that has lifted them to second in the league. It comes off the back of a slow start to the season that saw them fail to win any of their first three matches.

The Canaries are understandable favourites heading into the midweek game at Carrow Road as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League but will be without a number of notable names.

Left-back Dimitris Giannoulis remains sidelined with a ligament injury sustained in their draw with Wigan earlier in the season and joins right-back Sam Byram as another notable name who will also miss out with a thigh injury.

Midfielder Jacob Lungi Sorensen also sits out with Smith revealing in his most recent press conference: "Dimi is out of his boot, but Lungi and Sam aren't. Sam is still walking on crutches. Dimi is likely to come back the quickest."

Norwich will also be without talented 21-year-old forward Adam Idah with Norfolk Live writing that the Republic of Ireland international suffering a set-back from a knee issue. He returned to action for two games earlier this season after missing the last three months of last campaign but then had to undergo exploratory surgery.

Pearson's side will need to keep dangerman Joshua Sargent quiet if they are to pull off a result with the forward scoring five goals so far this season. Striker Teemu Pukki is also fit but has yet to capture his goalscoring form with just one to his name.

In regards to City, Pearson is likely to have a clean bill of health with the exception of Ayman Benarous and Tomas Kalas. The former remains out until around December as he recovers from an ACL injury while the defender is recovering from knee surgery and is likely to be back in October or November.

Defender Timm Klose is likely to be in the squad against his former club after recovering from a knee injury. The central defender returned to action in the Under-21's victory over Sheffield Wednesday last week.

City will head into the game undefeated in their last eight games in all competitions but the trip to Norwich is arguably their toughest test of the season so far. Pearson's side then travel to Burnley on Saturday before the international break.
