Norwegian star Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold has pulled out of the Winter Olympics after collapsing at the finish line of the women's biathlon 10km pursuit on Sunday.
Tandrevold, who has a history of heart problems, looked set to win a medal in the event, before stalling during the final lap and collapsing in a heap after crossing the finish line.
The 25-year-old ultimately finished 14th after skiers continued to pass her, and had to be carried away by members of her coaching team.
Tandrevold gave fans an update on Monday, revealing that she was feeling better but would no longer be competing at the Games.
"I just think I pushed my limits in the altitude and in a tough race, but since I've had issues with my heart earlier in my career, we need to be careful and we need to check it out further," she told reporters.
"I'm not allowed to compete more in these Olympics so I will go home to Norway.
"There is nothing I want more than to compete in the relay with my teammates and the other girls and the best team but my health is more important."
Norway's team doctor Lars Kolsrud said Tandrevold's collapse was the result of exhaustion.
"She went empty on top of the hill and hardly got to the finishing line," Kolsrud said. "When she got there, she was very sad and sorry, because she lost this medal and she was all empty for power.
"She was not unconscious but she was very, very exhausted. She said nothing except: 'I've spoiled everything.'"
Tandrevold's teammate Marte Olsbu Roieseland ultimately won the gold medal in 10km, while Swedish athlete Elvira Oeberg won silver and Tiril Eckhoff, another of Tandrevold's Norway teammates, won the bronze.
Two events remain in the women's biathlon, with the relay set to take place on Wednesday and the mass start on Saturday.
