A Northumbria Police officer has been fined after being caught drink-driving.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Brooks got behind the wheel of a vehicle whilst over the drink-drive limit and was caught driving in an area of Seaton Burn last month. The 46-year-old committed the serious offence on May 20 at Front Street in the village and has now been banned from driving and fined.

On Wednesday, Brooks, of Hazlerigg, Newcastle, appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court to be sentenced for drink-driving. He had pleaded guilty to the offence.
