For any families looking to have some fun in the great outdoors this Easter, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is offering a range of activities for all ages.
The trust will be running events at three of its reserves - Northumberlandia, Weetslade Country Park and Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre. The beauty spots are the perfect places to get the little ones out exploring and getting closer to nature over half term with trails, hunts and crafts.
At Cramlington's Northumberlandia, there will be two family den building sessions on Tuesday, April 4, followed by a family mini-beast hunt and 'tracks and trails' hunt on Tuesday, April 11. You'll be able to explore the country park - famed for its Lady of the North land sculpture that's 100 feet high and a quarter of a mile long - via downloadable Easter trails too, which are scheduled to run from Good Friday on April 7 until Easter Monday on April 10.
At Weetslade Country Park in North Tyneside, anyone with waggy-tailed members of the family is encouraged to bring them along to an Easter egg hunt on Good Friday between 10am and midday - bunny ears and Easter bonnets are encouraged. And there's a spring trail to take part in at the park too, running for a fortnight between Sunday, April 2 and Sunday, April 16.
And finally, up the coast at Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre, animal lovers can take part in both a bird spotting and bird box making craft session on Thursday, April 6. In addition, families can hunt for mini-beasts on a 'tracks and trails' activity on Thursday, April 13 - or if you're after a more chilled day out, take in the views across the lake from the Lookout Cafe.
Frances Smiles, events officer at Northumberland Wildlife Trust, said: "There's something for everybody this Easter, whether you're arty crafty, have four legs and a tail or just fancy a leisurely stroll in peace and tranquillity round Weetslade Country Park, why not give the cinemas and shopping centres a miss and head outdoors and recharge your batteries the natural way?"
Den building sessions at Northumberlandia, which will challenge participants to construct weather-proof shelters using natural materials and tarpaulin, costs £4 per child - accompanying adults don't need to buy a ticket. The mini-beast and 'tracks and trails' hunts also cost £4 per child, while the Easter trail costs £3 per child.
The Weetslade Easter egg hunt is free, with donations to the Trust welcome. The spring trail at Weetslade costs £3 per download. Meahwhile, the bird spotting event and 'tracks and trails' activity at Hauxley each cost £4 per child, while the bird box making session costs £8 per child, per box.
