Timber supplier A&J Scott Ltd is recruiting for up to 15 staff this spring and summer, with a further 10 jobs expected to be created in the next two years.
The move follows sustained growth for the 180-strong Northumberland sawmill business which saw turnover increase 21.6% to £45m and operating profit increase 135.4% to £9.8m in 2021 on the back of £25m investment in equipment over the last decade.
New roles created cover a range of the family-owned firm's production activities including timber processing and machine operation and driving forklifts, timber handling vehicles and lorries. Site maintenance and management staff, including mechanical and electrical engineers, will also be appointed.

In the last year, A&J Scott has installed a new log sorting and grading line on a 20-acre site, expanding its current Wooperton base to approximately 40 acres.
In the next two years the firm says it plans to develop further production facilities from which it will produce timber for its customers including wholesales, distributors, timber merchants across the country and contractors and farmers locally.
