Northern Territory ballot orders for next month's federal election announced

A field of 32 Northern Territory candidates will contest next month's federal election, with the Country Liberal Party securing the top spot on two of the region's three ballot papers.

At a declaration of nominations in Darwin today, the Australian Electoral Commission said nine people will run in the electorate of Lingiari, six in Solomon and the remainder will vie for the Senate.

Following an official draw for ballot positions, CLP candidate and former Alice Springs mayor Damien Ryan claimed the top spot in Lingiari, which has been held by retiring Labor MP Warren Snowdon for the past two decades.

Mr Ryan's main rival, Labor's Marion Scrymgour, will appear in the fifth spot on the ballot paper.

The ballot paper order for Lingiari is:

3. 3.Thong Sum Lee — Citizens Party
4. 4.Allan McLeod — United Australia Party
5. 5.Marion Scrymgour — Labor
6. 6.Michael Gravener — Independent

8. 8.Tim Gallard — Pauline Hanson's One Nation
9. 9.George Kasparek — Liberal Democrat

Six candidates running for Solomon 

In Solomon, Liberal Democrat candidate Kylie Bonanni was selected at the top of the ballot.

Labor's incumbent MP Luke Gosling will be in the third spot, while his main opponent, CLP candidate Tina MacFarlane will feature next in line.

The ballot paper order for Solomon is:

Race for the senate 

For the Senate, the CLP, whose ticket is led by Jacinta Price, secured first position on the ballot paper.

The Liberal Democrats, led by former CLP Senator Sam McMahon, are in second spot.

Labor, which features Senator Malarndirri McCarthy at the top of its ticket, is third.
