Northern Ireland weather warning issued by Met Office as strong winds expected

Parts of Northern Ireland are set to be hit by strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday, the Met Office has warned.

A two-day yellow weather warning has been issued by the forecaster, taking effect from 8pm this evening and will end at 5am tomorrow.

Strong winds overnight may bring a "few travel impacts", with the public urged to exercise caution.

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are possible;
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely;
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible in a few locations.

The yellow warning will only affect some areas of Northern Ireland, including Newry, parts of Armagh, Enniskillen and Omagh.

A Met Office spokesperson said the weekend weather forecast gives for cold conditions.

"Bright spells on Friday and Saturday but rather cold, with a few wintry showers," they added.

"It will turn milder on Sunday with rain and a strengthening southeasterly wind."
