Northern Ireland weather for the week ahead as yellow warning issued

After a few bright days last week, the good weather has dispersed again in true Northern Irish fashion.

If you are planning to get out and enjoy the last few days of the Easter Bank Holiday, be prepared for scattered showers and dull skies.

With the Met Office forecasting "sunny spells and showers" for Easter Monday, remember to grab an umbrella when leaving the house.

A yellow weather warning for wind has also been issued betweem 3pm on Tuesday, April 11, until Wednesday morning, April 12.

The warning states a period of strong winds will bring the potential for some disruption and will affect mainly counties Antrim and Down.

Here is what you can expect from the weather for the week ahead:

Easter Monday, 10 April

Sunshine and showers today with outbreaks most frequent across southern areas, here turning heavy at times particularly for afternoon, bringing the risk of thunderstorms.

Winds west to southwest occasionally freshening across the coasts.

Showers and clear spells with outbreaks quite frequent early evening, before turning few and far between late evening and overnight.

Winds west to southwest occasionally strong across coasts. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Easter Tuesday, April 11

Weather warning for wind in place from 3pm.

Mainly dry with bright or sunny spells for the morning.

Periods of rain spreading from the southwest for the afternoon, turning heavy from evening as strong to gale winds develop.

Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday, April 12

Weather warning for wind ends at 6am.

Discussing the yellow warning, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Gusts of 45-50 mph are possible inland and perhaps in excess of 60 mph for a time around some Irish Sea coastal areas."

High of 9°C forecasted for Belfast with lows of 5°C.

Outlook for Thursday to Friday

Showers, initially merging to longer, heavier periods of rain at times, bringing the risk of afternoon thunderstorms, but tending to turn drier towards Friday.

Sunny spells to break up the cloud and rain is expected.
