North Shields singer-songwriter Sam Fender has been forced to cancel a gig in Milan due to illness just weeks before two huge homecoming gigs at St. James' Park.
Sam had been due to play at the Fabrique venue in Italy's second city on Tuesday evening, but posted the cancellation just hours before the gig on his Instagram story.
He apologised to his fans, saying he was "devastated" and said that his doctor had told him not to perform.

Sam's statement said: "So sorry not to be able to play for you tonight Milan. I've just been told not to perform by my doctor due to illness.
"I'm truly devastated and can't apologise enough to everyone who bought a ticket and travelled to see me and the boys. I hope I can make it up to you."
Sam is currently on a tour across eight countries, and opened for Bruce Springsteen in Rome. His St. James' Park gigs on June 9 and 10 are both sold out.
It is not yet clear what his illness is or how long it will prevent him from performing.
