North Lanarkshire residents encouraged to make use of financial support channels

Motherwell and Wishaw’s MSP Clare Adamson is encouraging constituents to use a new website providing a wide range of advice and financial support.

Developed by the Scottish Government as a ‘one stop shop’ to help those struggling with the cost of living crisis, the website includes information on help available for households to meet rising energy, housing and other costs.

It also provides details on accessing Scottish and UK social security payments, including online benefit calculators, as well as wider health and wellbeing information.

Ms Adamson, MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw, said: “This new website is a trustworthy source of advice and help for people struggling with the cost of living.

“The Scottish Government has allocated almost £3 billion in this financial year towards mitigating the cost of living crisis.”

Meanwhile, the SNP MSP will co-host two cost of living advice events with Marion Fellow MP.

The events will take place this Friday, September 30 in the Craig Suite, Dalziel Building, Motherwell and Friday, November 18 at LAMH Wellbeing Centre and Café, Wishaw. Both events will run on a drop-in basis from 10.30am to 2pm and everyone is welcome to attend.

Ms Adamson added: “I will be hosting an advice event in Motherwell this Friday and a similar event in Wishaw in November. We will provide leaflets with advice for those who cannot access the new website.

“I would encourage my constituents in Motherwell and Wishaw to make use of every support channel available but the reality is that the Scottish Government operates within a finite budget with limited borrowing powers.

“We do not have the financial levers to adequately address this crisis and there has been appalling inaction at UK level.

“I reiterate calls on the UK Government to bring about meaningful reform to social security and targeted support for those at the sharp end of this crisis.

“It is imperative that the Chancellor reverses the disastrous fiscal measures announced last week which will only compound the pressures on public services.”

The new website address is: gov.scot/costoflivingsupport
