A weather warning for ice has been issued in the North East as temperatures look set to drop this week over the coming days.
The Met Office has a yellow weather warning for ice in place across the region from 6pm tomorrow until 12pm on Thursday. Forecasters also predict "widespread frosts" towards the end of the week.
The official Met Office forecast for Wednesday is: "Inland, a dry, sunny day is expected with a brisk northerly breeze. Near the coast remaining rather cloudy with further showers, perhaps turning wintry at some lower levels. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 2 °C."
The outlook for Thursday to Saturday is: "Very cold, especially overnight with widespread frosts. Often sunny, however daytime temperatures remaining close to freezing. Showers, predominantly along coasts, becoming increasingly wintry to lower levels with icy patches possible."
