A North East auction house is gearing up for a busy summer following on from a hugely successful music sale which saw one album alone go for £4,400.
Vectis Auctions in County Durham specialises in toys but is known for a variety of sales and recently these included its first vinyl event which proved a huge hit - so much so that it is now keen to hear from anyone interested in selling their own music collections as plans are now under way for a similar auction in May.
The debut record and music sale in March enjoyed "fantastic results", it said, with online bidders in hot competition with buyers who turned up to the auction room itself to view a mix of rare finds. These included an original 1963 pressing of The Beatles LP Please Please Me which raised more than the top end of its £2,000-£4,000 estimate, fetching £4,400 which amounted to £5,280 with 'buyer's premium'.

It was bought by a European bidder while a 1969 first pressing of a self-titled Led Zeppelin LP went to a UK bidder for £1,500 (£1,800 with buyer's premium), despite an estimate of just £700-£900. The auction featured music of all genres from classic rock and heavy metal to pop, punk, easy listening and classical.
Among the records were LPs, seven-inch and 12-inch singles, picture discs, box sets and laser discs and the sale also offered associated items such as CDs, tapes, books, record players, turntables and autographed pieces. Lots also included the likes of a Queen Sheer Heart Attack LP - an autographed 1974 first pressing with the sleeve signed by Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - and a Dire Straits' classic Brothers In Arms, with the sleeve autographed by local hero Mark Knopfler and his bandmates.
A spokeswoman for the Stockton on Tees auction house said: "The sale went really well and attracted a lot of attention. We are looking forward to the next sale which will be held on May 16, with plans to hold further sales every other month for the rest of the year.
"So if you have a vinyl, music and associated items collection you are thinking of selling, we would love to hear from you." For more information about Vectis and other upcoming auctions, with the next including a toy sale on April 20; a model train sale on April 21 and a TV and film-related sale on April 25, see its website here.
Ahead of an auction, lots can be viewed both on-site and online and anyone then wanting to bid in the sale will need to pre-register.
