A man has died at a Scots rail line which will be closed for some time "due to the complexity of the incident". Police were called to a section of track between Arbroath and Montrose - on the Dundee and Aberdeen line - at around 1.20pm on Tuesday.
Paramedics and emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a casualty. However a man was pronounced dead upon arrival.
ScotRail has warned commuters to expect delays and possible cancellations on Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen, and Edinburgh to Aberdeen services. Enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances behind his death.
It is not currently known how long delays are expected, but the rail operator tweeted: "Due to the complexity of the incident the police have advised the line may be closed for some time."
A British Transport Police spokesperson told the Record: "Officers were called to the line in Braehead at 2.16pm following reports of a casualty. Paramedics also attended however sadly a man has been pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are working to establish the full circumstances behind his death."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a person at Lunan Bay near Arbroath around 1.20pm on Tuesday, 5 June.
“Emergency services are currently at the scene.”
