Durham murder trial: Husband denies murdering grandmother Sally Turner

A murder trial is under way after a Durham grandmother was stabbed to death. Sally Turner, 50, from Durham, was found dead at a home in June last year.

A post-mortem examination revealed the grandmother died from stab wounds. Sally's husband Harry Turner, 53, of Tiree Close, Brandon, denies murder but has pleaded guilty to manslaughter. A trial is now under way at Teesside Crown Court.

Gateshead woman slams council after front door was boarded up for 14 months leaving her 'homeless'

A Gateshead woman claims she has been unable to enter her flat for more than a year after the council boarded up her front door.

Tracy Naden, from Low Fell, said she was left with just the clothes on her back and had to spend 14 months living with friends after returning home to find that her front door had been sealed off. The 52-year-old told ChronicleLive that police had broken down the door of her council flat in November 2021 following a report of concern for someone who did not live at the property.

Police hunt for driver who fled scene after hitting parked cars in Hexham

Police are hunting for a driver who fled the scene after their car crashed into parked vehicles in Hexham.

Corbridge Road this morning (Newcastle Chronicle)

Officers responded at 8.20am on Monday to reports of a vehicle crashing into “a number” of others on Corbridge Road, with emergency services on scene shortly after. And though there have been no injuries reported, Northumbria Police now need to find the driver.

Newcastle have found talented 16-year-old who's wowed staff and could be in squad vs Liverpool

Eddie Howe has stressed that Lewis Miley deserved his call-up to Newcastle United's first team because the 16-year-old has impressed 'every time' he has trained with the group.

Miley got to sample a Premier League match day experience for the first time on Saturday after the attacking midfielder was named on the bench for the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Miley may yet keep his place in the squad for Saturday's visit of Liverpool after Joe Willock suffered a suspected hamstring injury against Bournemouth.

Michael McIntyre announces Newcastle date on new world tour

Bafta-winning comedian Michael McIntyre has announced a new world tour which will bring him to Newcastle in spring next year.

The stand-up comedian will be taking to the road in 2024 on the back of previous sell-out tours which have broken box office records worldwide. And tickets will go on general sale this Friday here for the tour of new show Magnificent which will include a city date at Utilita Arena on March 16.
