North East mum ‘barred’ from local pub after complaining about Sunday dinner delivery on Facebook

A woman has said that she has been banned from her local pub after posting a photo on Facebook of a Sunday dinner that was delivered to her.

Mum Katie Lou, 31, was left unimpressed after placing an order for the meal from the Hope and Union on Silver Street in Stockton. Katie complained that the delivery was “freezing” when it arrived at her home, and compared the portion size to “a kids meal”.

The unhappy diner explained that the order, which cost £15.50 plus another £5 in service and delivery fees, arrived with far smaller portions than she had been expecting. “The apple sauce was missing and I got three carrots, two roasties, two parsnips, loads of peas in a pod, and a small portion of red cabbage,” she told Teesside Live .

“I was not happy - I paid £15.50 and it looked like a kids meal. It was freezing cold and the potatoes tasted like they had been sat for a while and been re-cooked - they were dry,” Katie added.

The mum took to Facebook messenger to raise the issue with the Hope and Union privately, and threatened to post her review of the dinner on social media along with pictures after she received no reply. The pub then responded by telling Katie that she was barred.

“I thought it was a bit rude and unprofessional,” Katie said of the pub’s reply to her. “Everywhere that does food isn't going to always get positive reviews. Sometimes negative reviews are a good thing so you know what to improve on.”

Speaking out on the decision to ban her from the pub, she added: “I thought it was ridiculous. I ordered a dinner and it has come the way it did and I was complaining - it's not my fault.”

The pub has glowing reviews on Tripadvisor, with a 4.5-star rating based on the opinions of more than 400 diners, and was recently featured in The Guardian’s 30 Best UK Pubs for Sunday Lunch. Teesside Live has attempted to contact the Hope and Union for a response.
