North Dakota confirmed its first human case of West Nile virus this year on August 7, and the patient, a Cass County resident, was hospitalized. The announcement came from the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services after weeks of rising mosquito detections across the state.
Positive mosquito pools have now been found in five counties: Cass, Grand Forks, Richland, Ward, and Williams. An animal in Sioux County and a bird in Richland County have also tested positive.
