North Carolina's four private Medicaid health plans have formed what they describe as the state's first joint task force to root out fraud, waste, and abuse, with autism therapy spending among their biggest concerns. Medicaid spending on applied behavior analysis (ABA) in the state passed $505 million in 2025, up from $1.9 million in 2020.
The task force was launched in August through the North Carolina Association of Health Plans, North Carolina Health News reported. It brings together investigators from AmeriHealth Caritas, Healthy Blue, UnitedHealthcare and Carolina Complete Health, which administer Medicaid for millions of residents.
