North Ayrshire's youngest councillor, 22, was former Marymass Mary

Thrilled former Marymass Mary Chloe Robertson was celebrating another moment in the spotlight when she was elected to North Ayrshire Council.

The 22-year-old former St Matthew's Academy pupil won a seat in the Irvine West ward along with SNP Party colleague Shaun Macaulay when the results were announced on Friday.

Her party are the biggest in North Ayrshire and in Scotland.

She said: "I'm really pleased to be elected. A lot of people are really concerned about the cost of living and the SNP have a really great manifesto to combat some of the issues we are facing."

The new councillor was in the Marymass Royal Party in 2015 and said: "I really loved that as well and at that point I realised I wanted to do more for the community. Also there was a great sense of community at St Matthew's."

Asked why she stood for council, she said: "I was a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament from 2017 to 2019 and helped the community.

"The Scottish Parliament is a great stepping stone to learn new skills. I also helped campaign for Christina Larsen in North Ayrshire five years ago."
