North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson to stand down due to ill health

North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson is set to stand down as a councillor after 27 years due to ill health.

Mr Clarkson, Labour councillor for Irvine West, today announced he will not be seeking election at the forthcoming Scottish local elections in May bringing to an end decades of public service.

He said: "It is with the greatest of regret that due to ill health, I am unable to put my name forward for reselection, for the council election in May.
