Anthea Dickson was elected the new Provost of North Ayrshire Council at the first meeting of the new session at Cunninghame House today.
The Garnock Valley SNP councillor took on the role unopposed as the minority SNP administration enjoyed its first day in charge.
Labour's Saltcoats and Stevenston councillor John Sweeney was elected Depute Provost.
Councillor Marie Burns, re-elected to Irvine East, took on the role of leader of the council while Shaun Macaulay, re-elected in Irvine West and seen as one of the rising stars in the administration, was voted in as depute leader.
The leader and depute leader also automatically took over as cabinet chair and vice-chair respectively at the lengthy session.
Garnock Valley Labour member John Bell was elected chairman of the audit and scrutiny committee, while his party colleague Donald Reid defeated Conservative Matthew McLean 20-10 to take on the role of vice-chairman.
SNP North Coast councillor Eleanor Collier defeated Tory Ronnie Stalker 19-11 to land the role of chair of the licensing committee, while Labour’s Nairn McDonald won a vote against Conservative Angela Stephen to become vice-chair.
Robert Foster of Labour was elected fire and rescue committee chairman, defeating Tory Timothy Billings 19-11 in a vote.
Saltcoats and Stevenston Labour councillor Jim Montgomerie was decisively elected to serve in the armed forces and veterans cross-party committee.
The council also passed a move stipulating questions at the main meeting had to be submitted in advance for a Question Time-type session.
However, they could not have been asked within the previous six months and there could be no pre-amble to try and limit the time of the meeting.
