Actor Paul Mescal’s mum, who has cancer, said his treat of a swish night out at the BAFTAs was an “amazing gift” from him.
Dearbhla Mescal, who is having chemotherapy for a type of bone marrow cancer, said: “These past few days feel like I was in a movie... my heart is just so very grateful.
“What an amazing, amazing gift this was to be part of this incredible, crazy ride.”
Son Paul, 27, had been up for Best Actor for his performance in Aftersun, but missed out to Austin Butler as Elvis.
The star is also in the running for Best Actor at the Oscars next month. Dearbhla spoke of how the experience was a whirlwind as she was joined by husband Paul, as well as singer daughter Nell, for the ceremony.
Fashion house Gucci dressed her for the awards on Sunday after which she went on to the after-show bashes.
Earlier, the family were treated to a spa treatment at their hotel.
Speaking previously about the Academy Awards in Los Angeles and if she would attend, she said: “If everything goes OK, I just might be. If not, I hope to be there with my fluffy socks... and watch it from a TV screen.
“But I’d like to be on that side of the world... Life is pretty magical and you can take the hits when things are good around you.”
Last month, the Normal People star’s sister Nell tweeted about their mum getting a haircut “in prep for her chemotherapy” the same day the Oscar nomination was announced.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today show about his nomination, Mescal said: “There’s stuff going on at home that is difficult, this has given my family a very welcome respite. They’re all coming out to LA.”
Aftersun director Charlotte Wells won Best Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
