Nor’easter begins pummeling East Coast with storms expected into the weekend

• A nor'easter has begun to wreak havoc on North Carolina's coast with gusty winds, heavy rain and flooding, and the threat is set to expand across the East Coast into the weekend.
• Forecasters say the most notable impacts of the nor'easter will be major coastal flooding, as well as dangerous surf and strong rip currents. The storm will set its sights on New England this weekend with high winds, flooding rain and tidal flooding.
• Wind gusts between 35-45 miles per hour are expected, with the highest gusts slated for southeast Connecticut and eastern Long Island.
• New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged residents to be prepared, writing, “The storm is expected to pass offshore, keeping the heaviest rainfall east of New York City , though the area will still experience gusty winds, rain, and coastal flooding. The weather impacts are expected to begin today, peak on Friday, and potentially linger through Sunday across the region.”
• He continued, “Coastal residents are advised to move their vehicles to higher ground or away from streets that regularly flood. New Yorkers should secure loose outdoor items, such as furniture and garbage containers, that could be blown away by strong winds.”
