En route to reaching their initial 53-man roster of the 2023 season, the Carolina Panthers waived nearly 30 players on Tuesday. So, how many of the departed were claimed?
None.
Buy Panthers TicketsAs noted by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, not a single one of the 27 guys who hit the waiver wire out of Carolina were claimed by Wednesday’s 12 p.m. ET deadline. Those players are as follows:
- G Deonte Brown
- RB Spencer Brown
- OT Larnel Coleman
- OT J.D. DiRenzo
- S Collin Duncan
- LB Ace Eley
- DL Antwuan Jackson
- WR Gary Jennings
- LB Kobe Jones
- LB Eku Leota
- QB Jake Luton
- CB Herb Miller
- CB Mark Milton
- RB Camerun Peoples
- LB Bumper Pool
- WR C.J. Saunders
- LB Brandon Smith
- WR Shi Smith
- CB Keith Taylor Jr.
- C Sam Tecklenburg
- LB Jordan Thomas
- S Josh Thomas
- CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver III
- WR Josh Vann
- DL Raequan Williams
- K Matthew Wright
- CB Rejzohn Wright
Some did, however, find homes.
11 of those players were officially added to the Panthers’ practice squad this afternoon. Additionally, Taylor Jr.—according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic—is expected to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nonetheless, perhaps the lack of interest is an indictment on how the roster was constructed over the past few years.
