Bath City forward Alex Fletcher has released an encouraging statement after moving out of intensive care following a serious injury sustained in a Non-League match.
Fletcher suffered a major head injury after colliding with an advertising hoarding in Bath City’s game against Dulwich Hamlet on November 8. The match at Twerton Park was abandoned and he was quickly taken to hospital by ambulance, where he spent many weeks under medical supervision.
The 23-year-old was previously described as being in a “critical condition” in intensive care. But Bath City have now released a statement which gives a positive update on his recovery from the accident.
“Thank you all so much for your kindness, generosity and messages of good will that you have sent to me through what has been the most challenging period of my life,” Fletcher said. “I am now off the intensive care unit and continuing my recovery on the neurosurgery ward assisted by the wonderful staff and nurses here.
“I want to say a special thank you to all those who have been looking after me and my family and to everyone who has contributed to the go fund me page which will help me get back to doing what I love to do as soon as possible.
“It will be a long road to recovery but I will draw on all of the love and support that everyone has shown, every step of the way.”

A statement from Fletcher’s family said: “We are all very relieved and so happy that Alex is now out of intensive care and heading in the right direction. We echo his words in thanking everyone who has shown so much love, goodwill and support towards us all and are convinced that this has helped in his recovery immensely.”
Bath City added: “We too thank everyone for the support shown to Alex, his family and the Club this far. Our supporters have been amazing and we know that you’ll all be with us, side by side with Fletch, during his recovery.”
Fletcher started his career with Plymouth Argyle, where he went on to make 25 appearances. He spent time on loan with Torquay United, Aldershot Town and Tiverton Town, before joining the latter permanently in 2020.
He has played for Bath City for the past two years and scored 16 goals in 39 appearances in his first full campaign for the club. He has eight goals in 17 National League South appearances this season.
