Noel Gallagher thinks that rock has become too middle class for there to be another Oasis

Noel Gallagher suspects there will never be another Oasis because working class kids now can't afford to start a band.

The musician, 54, is best known as a vocalist and the lead guitarist of the popular rock band, which was formed in Manchester by him and brother Liam Gallagher, 49, in 1991.

And whilst the siblings came from humble beginnings in Burnage, a suburb within the city, he reckons that middle-class youngsters have more of an advantage in music today.

Discussing rising talent, the Brit Award winner questioned if teenagers are even able to make music anymore, with him asking recently: "Where are the 14-year-olds in bands now?"

He commented: "Working class kids can't afford to do it now, because guitars are expensive, there's no rehearsal rooms. They've all been turned into wine bars and flats."

The performer - who fronts Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - said there are now "loads of middle class bands" with members who wear guitars "as opposed to playing them."

He suggested that this is a privilege reserved for individuals who have a certain amount of wealth. Noel commented: "Four or five guys from a council estate can't afford guitars."

During the recent interview, he also spoke about how Oasis - which he quit in 2009 after a bust-up with Liam - still sell hundreds of thousands of physical albums.

This is despite us living in an age of music streaming, with the band's success with physical copies of their music said to be largely down to performances by his brother.

Liam still performs massive solo shows, during which he plays the band's biggest hits - which include Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger and Some Might Say.

This brings new generations of fans to their songs, despite the popular band having not put out a new studio album since Dig Out Your Soul was released in 2008.

Commenting on their continued success, Noel said: "Oasis sold 480,000 albums in 2021. It's unbelievable, as people don't buy albums. Liam keeps the flame alive."

The brothers have pursued other music ventures since departing from Oasis. Liam initially formed Beady Eye, before going solo. Noel instead has his High Flying Birds band.
